The 2016 UEFA European Football Championship will take place in France from June 10 to July 10, in ten cities: Lille, Lens, Paris, Saint-Denis, Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille, and Nice. The tournament is expected to draw 2.5 million spectators to the stadiums, and several million fans are expected to visit France.

As part of its missions defined in Order 2016-462 of April 14, 2016, and Decree 2016-523 of April 27, 2016, Santé publique France is implementing an enhanced surveillance system tailored to the scale of the event. It complements the standard surveillance system for health events related to environmental exposure and infectious diseases and is based on the following actions:

  • increased mobilization of staff to ensure 24-hour detection of any health reports that could have an impact on public health, in order to help implement corrective measures

  • Strengthening the monitoring of population health indicators through daily analysis of data from emergency room visits (Oscour), SOS Médecins consultations, and mortality data

  • preparing national strategic stockpiles of health products and mobilizing health reserves across the country in the event of an exceptional health situation at the request of health authorities

  • Health promotion and prevention for the general public through the distribution of two postcards titled "6 Health Tips to Keep the Party Going" to regional health agencies and host cities, and the adaptation of the mangerbouger.fr website for the event.
