General health information videos

Two series of short videos have been added to the "Pour comprendre" collection of resources, produced by Santé publique France and available to everyone. Produced with support from the National Solidarity Fund for Autonomy, they address two key health prevention topics: smoking cessation and HIV.

With the aim of reducing social inequalities in health, Santé publique France is working to improve access to health information for the entire population, particularly for people with disabilities, those who have difficulty reading or speaking French, and more generally for anyone who lacks access to information and preventive measures.

Since 2014, the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (which became Santé publique France on May 1, 2016) has embraced “universal design” to make health information that is easy to understand available to everyone. The goal is to create documents accessible to as many people as possible by involving the target audiences in the design of these tools.

These first two video series offer a digital alternative to the two universal brochures published in 2015: Quitting Smoking – Understanding the Basics and HIV, AIDS – Understanding the Basics. Each topic (tobacco and HIV) is covered in four videos, each approximately two minutes long. The videos are animated. They were designed to be easy to understand. The main messages can be conveyed through visuals alone. A specially adapted video player, accessible to all, allows everyone to easily choose whether to enable subtitles, French Sign Language, audio description, and more—as well as to slow down the playback speed of the videos. The videos can be downloaded for free from the Tobacco and HIV sections of the "Accessible Information for All" section on the inpes.santepubliquefrance.fr website. However, those who wish to do so can order the DVDs "I'm Quitting Smoking – Understanding" and "The AIDS Virus – Understanding" for free if needed.
