COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of April 29, 2022

Key Points

  • In Guadeloupe, the epidemiological situation was generally stable in Week 16. The combined and sustained decline in incidence and testing rates that began in Week 10 did not continue into Week 16. Although testing activity increased in Week 16, incidence and positivity rates remained stable.

  • Furthermore, approximately 50 fewer positive cases were detected compared to Week 15. The effective R value of 1.01 (CI [0.97–1.05]) supports this trend; it was non-significantly greater than 1 over the seven-day rolling period from April 17 to 23.

  • At the hospital level, a slight increase in the number of new emergency department visits was observed in Week 16. According to SI-VIC indicators, the number of new admissions to inpatient wards was slightly decreasing, while it remained stable in critical care. This trend toward stability was also observed for new deaths recorded in Week 16.

Saint Martin

  • In Saint Martin, the epidemiological situation has been relatively stable for the past three weeks, although the incidence rate remained at a high level. Fewer than ten additional cases were newly detected compared to the previous week, even though testing activity increased in Week 16.

  • The hospital situation has remained calm and stable since Week 13.

Saint Barthélemy

  • In Saint-Barthélemy, the epidemiological situation improved in Week 16. All virological indicators pointed to this improvement, specifically the number of new cases, which was decreasing despite increased testing activity.

  • In terms of hospital care, no new hospital admissions, no new emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19, and no deaths were recorded in Week 16.
