COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of April 9, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

A stable trend at a high level for all surveillance indicators has been observed in Guadeloupe over the past six weeks, despite fluctuations in virological surveillance indicators. The incidence rate was above the alert threshold, and the positivity rate was close to the alert threshold. In hospitals, activity remained high, with a large number of new hospitalizations, including those in intensive care. The UK variant (20I/50Y.V1) is actively circulating in the archipelago (>90% of screened RT-PCR tests). The effective R value calculated from SI-DEP data for week 2021-13 was significantly below 1: 0.89 [0.80–0.98].

Saint Barthélemy

Virological surveillance indicators were declining last week. This decline should be interpreted with caution given the closure of testing centers during the long Easter weekend, which could partly explain the decrease in the number of people tested and the number of positive cases. Activity in emergency departments for suspected COVID-19 remained low.

Saint Martin

Virological surveillance indicators were on the decline last week, with a positivity rate remaining below 5% (vigilance threshold) and an incidence rate below the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants. This decrease should be interpreted with caution given the closure of testing centers during the long Easter weekend, which could partly explain the decrease in the number of people tested and the number of positive cases. Emergency room activity for suspected COVID-19 cases also remained at a low level. No clusters have been reported since early March.
