COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of December 24, 2020
Key points
Guadeloupe
In Guadeloupe, all COVID-19 surveillance indicators were relatively stable last week compared to the previous two weeks. The incidence rate remained above the alert threshold (10 per 100,000 inhabitants), while the positivity rate was below the alert threshold (5%).
Last week’s incidence and positivity rates (2020-51) should be interpreted with caution given the current context of travel by Guadeloupean residents between Guadeloupe and other French departments (in mainland France or overseas territories). Indeed, SIDEP data are recorded based on the patient’s place of residence, even if the sample was collected outside their department of residence. Consequently, tests conducted outside Guadeloupe are counted in Guadeloupe.
In primary care and hospital settings, the number of consultations for acute respiratory infections, emergency room visits, new hospitalizations, new intensive care admissions, and deaths remained stable or even decreased slightly last week.
Saint Martin
Epidemiological surveillance indicators decreased last week compared to the previous two weeks. The virus is still actively circulating in Saint Martin.
Last week (2020-51), the incidence and positivity rates were 106 per 100,000 inhabitants and 4.7%, respectively, compared to 157 per 100,000 inhabitants and 9.0% in 2020-50. The trend in the number of outpatient and inpatient visits remained stable.
Saint-Barthélemy
The slight increase in epidemiological surveillance indicators recorded last week was linked to a workplace cluster, the severity of which was limited.
Last week (2020-51), the number of cases (9 cases compared to 2 in 2020-50), the positivity rate (1.5% in 2020-51 compared to 0.6% in 2020-50), and the incidence rate (92 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020-51 compared to 20 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2020-50) increased slightly. Given the small size of the population, the incidence rate quickly exceeds the vigilance or alert thresholds; this trend should therefore be interpreted with caution.
