COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of December 31, 2020

Key Points

Analysis of the epidemiological situation

Overall, the incidence and positivity rates for the past two weeks (2020-51 and 2020-52) should be interpreted with caution given the current context of travel by Guadeloupe residents between Guadeloupe and other French departments (in metropolitan France or overseas) during this holiday season, and vice versa. Indeed, SI-SEP data are presented by the patient’s place of residence.

Guadeloupe

In Guadeloupe, COVID-19 surveillance indicators reflect a stable epidemiological situation over the past two weeks (December 14–27). The incidence rate remains above the alert threshold of 10 per 100,000 inhabitants, while the positivity rate is below the alert threshold of 5%.

Nevertheless, a decrease in the number of outpatient visits for acute respiratory infections and an increase in emergency room visits were observed last week compared to the previous week, likely due to the closure of medical offices during the holiday season. Note that there were three new hospitalizations last week (2020-52). Vigilance remains essential.

Saint-Martin

A decrease in all epidemiological surveillance indicators was observed last week compared to previous weeks. The virus is still actively circulating in Saint Martin. The incidence rate is above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, while the positivity rate fluctuates around the vigilance threshold of 5% (5.8% last week, 2020-52, compared to 4.7% in 2020-51).

Saint Barthélemy

All epidemiological surveillance indicators show low viral circulation in the territory over the past two weeks. The incidence rate is above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, while the positivity rate is below the vigilance threshold of 5%. Given the small size of the population, these values should therefore be interpreted with caution.
