COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of February 26, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
The increase in COVID-19 surveillance indicators recorded in early February continued last week. The incidence rate is above the alert threshold and the positivity rate is above the vigilance threshold. The number of patients hospitalized in intensive care and new clusters has also increased. The detection of active circulation of the 20I/501Y.V1 (UK) variant may partly explain this trend.
As of February 26, the effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from SI-DEP data over the past 7 days was significantly higher than 1: 1.57 [1.39–1.75].
Saint Barthélemy
Epidemiological surveillance indicators were on the rise last week compared to the previous week and at levels comparable to those observed at the beginning of the year. Active circulation of the virus on the island is clearly present. The first isolated cases of the 20I/501Y.V1 (UK) variant were detected in late January. Vigilance must remain high in the coming weeks. Given the small population size, the incidence rate should be interpreted with caution.
Saint Martin
Although a decrease in surveillance indicators was observed last week compared to previous weeks, epidemiological surveillance indicators remained at high levels. Isolated cases of the 20I/501Y.V1 (UK) variant were detected in late January. The virus is actively circulating in the territory. This situation must be closely monitored over the coming weeks.
