COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of February 5, 2021
Key Points
Last week, epidemiological surveillance indicators for COVID-19 showed that SARS-CoV-2 transmission had stabilized in Guadeloupe and Saint Barthélemy, while it was on the rise in Saint Martin. The virus is actively circulating in all three territories. Vigilance must therefore remain high in the coming weeks, given the risk of new variants entering our territories.
Guadeloupe
Virological surveillance indicators have been generally stable for the past five weeks. This trend was also observed for emergency room visits and hospitalizations (across all departments and in intensive care) as well as in private practice. The positivity rate remained below the 5% vigilance threshold, and the incidence rate remained below the 50/100,000-population alert threshold.
Saint-Barthélemy
Virological surveillance indicators were declining in week 2021-04, although they remained at high levels. This reflects active circulation of the virus on the island. The incidence rate was above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate was below the vigilance threshold of 5%. Given the small population size, the incidence rate should be interpreted with caution.
Saint Martin
Virological surveillance indicators were on the rise in week 2021-04. In hospitals, however, the number of new admissions for COVID-19 remained low. In private practice, the number of consultations had been stable for four weeks. The incidence rate was above the alert threshold of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate was above the vigilance threshold of 5%. The virus is actively circulating, and this situation must be closely monitored.
