COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of January 13, 2022

Key points

Guadeloupe

In Guadeloupe, the epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 deteriorated further during Week S01. The incidence rate recorded during Week S01 was the highest ever recorded in the territory since the start of the pandemic. The first impacts on hospitals are beginning to be felt, with an increase in emergency room visits as well as a rise in hospitalizations. Virological and hospital monitoring indicators showed a marked increase. The 20–29, 30–39, and 10–19 age groups recorded the highest incidence rates. The effective reproduction number (R_eff) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between January 2 and 8, 2022, was 2.20 [2.16–2.24], significantly higher than 1, indicating an escalation of the epidemic amid a rising percentage of Omicron target mutations.

Saint Martin

In Saint Martin, an intensification of SARS-CoV-2 circulation was again observed, with a record number of new positive test results in week S01. In hospitals, based on SURSAUD and SIVIC data, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 and the number of new admissions remained stable but still at a high level compared to the previous week.

Saint Barthélemy

In Saint-Barthélemy, SARS-CoV-2 transmission remained intense during week S01. The positivity rate was rising and the incidence rate was relatively stable, while testing rates were also declining compared to the previous week. However, in hospitals, no emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 were recorded during week S01.
