COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 13, 2022.

Key points

Guadeloupe:

In Guadeloupe, SARS-CoV-2 circulation remained at a high level in Week 27.

Against a backdrop of a 9% increase in testing, the incidence rate remained stable, but the positivity rate decreased by 2 percentage points. The 30–39 age group again recorded the highest incidence rate. Over the seven-day rolling period from July 3 to 9, the effective R value of 1.08 (95% CI [1.05–1.12]) remained significantly above 1, indicating that SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate actively in Guadeloupe.

Furthermore, in Week 27, the L452R mutation (C1 screening result), which is present in several Omicron sublineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11), was detected in 29 samples, or 74%, compared to 73% in Week 26.

In hospitals, indicators were at high levels in Week 27. The number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 increased. New admissions across all departments remained stable but at a persistently high level. This situation led to the activation of the emergency plan at the Guadeloupe University Center on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Saint Martin:

In Saint Martin, SARS-CoV-2 transmission remained active in Week 27.

With testing activity up 18%, more than twenty additional people tested positive compared to the previous week. The positivity rate remained above the alert threshold for the third consecutive week but was stable compared to Week 26.

Hospital indicators remained generally low in Week 27. As of July 13, 2022, five visits for suspected COVID-19 were recorded in emergency departments, all followed by hospitalization, and no new deaths were reported in SI-VIC during Week 27.

Saint Barthélemy:

In Week 27, incidence and positivity rates remained at high but stable levels.

Despite a slight 6% increase in testing activity, fewer than five additional people tested positive. The positivity rate was above the alert threshold for the second consecutive week but remained stable compared to the previous week.

Despite this ongoing viral circulation in Saint-Barthélemy, the situation at the hospital remained calm in Week 27. As of July 13, 2022, only one visit for suspected COVID-19 was recorded in the emergency department; no new hospitalizations or deaths were reported in SI-VIC during Week 27.
