COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 16, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

The incidence rate has remained below the alert threshold for the past four weeks and decreased slightly in week 2021-26. Other virological indicators (positivity rate and testing rate) remained relatively stable. In hospitals, the number of emergency department visits was also stable compared to week 2021-25, while new admissions increased slightly. In the intensive care unit, one new admission was recorded at the University Hospital in week 2021-26. The low number of screened RT-PCR tests (<50) does not allow for the determination of variant proportions for week 2021-26. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected from June 30, 2021, to July 6, 2021, was 1.19 [1.02–1.38], significantly greater than 1.

Saint Martin

The epidemiological situation remained relatively stable in week 2021-27, despite the incidence rate exceeding the alert threshold amid rising testing rates. In hospitals, the number of emergency room visits for suspected Covid-19 was on the rise. However, the number of new hospital admissions remained stable compared to the previous week. The L432R variant was identified in week 2021-27. Individual prevention measures and collective containment efforts, along with the acceleration of vaccination, must be strengthened.

Saint-Barthélemy

Epidemiological surveillance indicators show low-level circulation of the Covid-19 virus. In week 2021-27, the incidence rate was slightly decreasing. Other virological indicators (positivity rate and testing rate) were stable. In the hospital, no new admissions were recorded in week 2021-27. However, the L432R and E484K mutations were identified in week 2021-27.
