COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 30, 2021

Key points

Guadeloupe

The rise in virological surveillance indicators observed in week 2021-28 continued last week. The positivity and incidence rates were both above their alert thresholds, with testing rates on the rise. The 20-29 and 30-39 age groups were particularly affected. The effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from data reported in SI-DEP for samples collected between July 21 and 27 was 2.34 [2.23–2.45], significantly higher than 1.

Saint Martin

In Saint Martin, the level of viral circulation remains high, as indicated by both virological and hospital metrics. The positivity rate was stable, and the incidence rate showed a slight decrease, with testing rates also declining. Furthermore, the number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 as well as new hospital admissions were slightly increasing. Individual prevention measures, collective containment efforts, and the acceleration of vaccination must be strengthened.

Saint-Barthélemy

The epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 deteriorated last week. The positivity and incidence rates were above the vigilance and alert thresholds, respectively, while testing rates were increasing. The 20–29 and 30–39 age groups were particularly affected. At the hospital, four new admissions were recorded in week 2021-29. One cluster was recorded in week 2021-29, and three new clusters have already been reported at the start of week 2021-30.
