COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of July 7, 2022.
Key points
Guadeloupe
The circulation of SARS-CoV-2 intensified in Week 26. All virological indicators were on the rise. Incidence and positivity rates increased by 41% and 3.2 percentage points, respectively, against a backdrop of a 23% increase in testing. This situation is comparable to the resurgence observed following the Carnival period. The 30–39 age group recorded the highest incidence rate. However, the sharpest increase was observed among those aged 90 and older. Over the seven-day rolling period from June 26 to July 2, the effective R value of 1.30 (95% CI [1.26–1.35]), significantly higher than 1, confirmed this intensification of viral circulation across the archipelago. Furthermore, the L452R mutation (C1 screening result), which is present in several Omicron sublineages (BA.4, BA.5, BA.2.11), was detected in 33 samples in S26, or 70%, compared to 71% in S25.
At the hospital level, indicators remained relatively stable despite this increase in SARS-CoV-2 circulation in S26.
Saint Martin
SARS-CoV-2 circulation accelerated for the second consecutive week in Saint Martin. All virological indicators increased in Week 26. With testing activity up 16%, more than 50 additional people tested positive compared to the previous week. The positivity rate remained above the alert threshold for the second consecutive week and increased by 3.2 percentage points compared to Week 25.
Since the resurgence observed in Week 12, hospital indicators have remained generally stable. Furthermore, as of July 6, 2022, only three visits for suspected COVID-19 were recorded in Week 26 in emergency departments; no hospitalizations or deaths were reported in SI-VIC.
Saint Barthélemy
Virological indicators rose for the second consecutive week in Saint-Barthélemy.
Against a backdrop of a sharp increase in testing (+32%), new SARS-CoV-2 infections more than doubled compared to the previous week. The positivity rate rose sharply by 6.4 percentage points for the third consecutive week and exceeded the 10% alert threshold in week 26.
Nevertheless, the situation in hospitals remained calm in Week 26. This hospital situation has prevailed since the resurgence of the epidemic observed in Week 12.
