COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of June 4, 2020
Summary
What is currently known about the situation in our territories?
Surveillance indicators have been at very low levels for several weeks: in Guadeloupe, the last locally transmitted case was detected on May 4, and in Saint Martin, it was detected on May 25. In Saint Barthélemy, the last locally transmitted case dates back to March 25. In Guadeloupe, the most recent confirmed cases are imported cases, detected upon their arrival in the territory.
What’s new in this Update for the region?
The SI-DEP system (screening information system) has been collecting biological data from private and hospital laboratories for the past two weeks. The overall positivity rate for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy is low and has been decreasing over the past week. Active
surveillance of severe cases in the intensive care unit at the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital identified the discharge of the last hospitalized patient on June 4.
Finally, no clusters have been reported in our territories since the lifting of lockdown measures.
What are the public health implications in the region?
A new system for managing the epidemic has been implemented since the lifting of lockdown, involving numerous partners including primary care physicians, health insurance providers, the Regional Health Agency, Santé publique France, hospitals, and medical testing laboratories. The goal of this system is to quickly identify the emergence of new transmission chains in order to control them. Special attention is being paid to new arrivals, with a screening test offered upon arrival at the airport and a 14-day quarantine. Protective measures, physical distancing, and contact tracing must be maintained to the fullest extent possible.
