COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of March 26, 2021
Key points
Guadeloupe
In Guadeloupe, following a decline observed in week 2020-10, the rate observed last week was rising again, reaching a level comparable to that recorded in late February and early March (2021-08 and 2021-09). The positivity rate and incidence rate have remained above the alert thresholds for the past 6 weeks (10% and 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively). As of March 25, the effective reproduction number (R_e) calculated from SI-DEP data over the past 7 days was not significantly below 1: 0.98 [0.89–1.09]. A high number of new clusters, new hospitalizations, and ICU admissions was observed. The UK variant (20I/50Y.V1) is actively circulating on the island. In week 2021-11, among the screened positive RT-PCR tests, the proportion of the UK variant (20I/50Y.V1) was over 90%.
Saint Barthélemy
Virological surveillance indicators were on the rise last week. The positivity rate was above the alert threshold (5%). Active circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus intensified on the island last week. Low-level local transmission of the UK variant (20I/501Y.V1) was identified.
Saint Martin
The situation has been stable in Saint Martin over the past two weeks, with a positivity rate below the alert threshold (5%) and indicators in both community-based care and hospitals at low levels. No clusters have been reported in recent weeks. Low-level local transmission of the UK variant (20I/501Y.V1) has been detected.
