COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy as of October 24, 2020

Key points

Guadeloupe

All COVID-19 surveillance indicators have been declining for three consecutive weeks, signaling a slowdown in the epidemic (number of confirmed cases, positivity rate/incidence, general practice visits, emergency room visits, number of hospitalizations, intensive care admissions, and deaths). At the same time, estimates of the effective reproduction number (R), which help describe the dynamics of the epidemic—
whether based on virological data (0.49), emergency room visits (0.65), or hospitalizations (0.61)—have all been significantly below 1 for several weeks, indicating that the epidemic is generally subsiding across the territory.

Saint Martin

Surveillance indicators have fluctuated over the past few weeks, but an overall trend toward stabilization has been observed since mid-September (week 37). The positivity rate averages 14%, fluctuating between 11% and 18%. The incidence rate has also fluctuated,
peaking at 182 per 100,000 residents in week 41 and declining last week (week 42, 104 per 100,000 residents). In hospitals, surveillance indicators were generally on the decline last week, but viral circulation remains active, and the situation must be closely monitored in the coming weeks.

Saint-Barthélemy

Over the past 4 weeks, the number of cases has fluctuated between 3 and 14 weekly cases, with a positivity rate ranging from 1.5% to 6.8%. Given the small size of the population, incidence rates quickly exceed the vigilance threshold (10/100,000) and alert threshold (50/100,000). Viral circulation appears moderate, but the situation must be monitored closely.
