Dengue Surveillance in Guadeloupe and the Northern Islands. Update as of November 28, 2019.
Epidemiological Situation
In Guadeloupe, an increase in all surveillance indicators has been confirmed. Since July 2019, nearly 2,000 clinically suspected cases of dengue have been observed, along with 476 laboratory-confirmed cases and more than 20 emergency room visits for suspected dengue, 8 of which required hospitalization. 72% of the archipelago’s municipalities are affected. The regional dengue monitoring committee met on November 22, 2019, and determined that the epidemiological situation of dengue in Guadeloupe now corresponds to Phase 4, Level 1 of the Psage Dengue protocol: Confirmed epidemic.
In Saint Martin, the increase in all surveillance indicators is confirmed, with nearly 130 clinically suggestive cases of dengue since October 2019—79% of which occurred in the last 4 weeks—and 28 biologically confirmed cases, 26 of which occurred in the last 4 weeks. The regional dengue monitoring committee will meet shortly to discuss the evolving epidemiological situation.
