Surveillance of Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in the Caribbean. Update as of July 13, 2022
Key Points
Since the Chikungunya outbreak in 2014 and the Zika outbreak in 2016, these viruses are no longer circulating in the French West Indies.
Regarding the dengue virus, surveillance indicators in both the community and hospitals remain at low levels in the French West Indies (Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthélemy). These territories are currently in an inter-epidemic phase with sporadic transmission of the dengue virus according to the criteria defined in the PSAGE (Program for Surveillance, Alert, and Management of Dengue Epidemics).
To prevent the emergence of dengue outbreaks, it is advisable to adopt “routine” and preventive measures (destruction of larval breeding sites, personal protection with repellents, use of mosquito nets and electric fly swatters) and to report suspected cases of dengue to the authorities and vector control services.
