Health Monitoring in Burgundy and Franche-Comté. Update as of October 19, 2023.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • Emergency department activity for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age remains stable at low levels, as does SOS Médecins activity.

COVID-19

  • The rate of confirmed cases in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is relatively stable, rising from 49.6 per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 40 to 50.4 in Week 41. The percentage of calls for suspected COVID-19 cases handled by SOS Médecins is decreasing (4.52% vs. 5.13% in Week 1). The rate of emergency department visits is relatively stable and remains low (1.50% vs. 1.38% in Week 1). The proportion of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit is increasing slightly (43.8% vs. 40.4% in Week 1) and primarily concerns those aged 65 and older (92.5%).

  • In long-term care facilities (LTCFs), surveillance of individual COVID-19 cases has been suspended since June 22, 2023, replaced by surveillance of clustered cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI). Between weeks 20 and 41, 108 outbreaks were reported in these facilities (including more than a dozen per week since late August (Week 35)), 93 (86%) of which were attributable exclusively to COVID-19.

Influenza

  • Influenza-related activity (all ages) among SOS Médecins associations and emergency departments is showing a slight increase.

  • Among the 108 episodes of ARI occurring in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) between weeks 20 and 41, no episode was attributed exclusively to influenza.
