Enhanced Surveillance of Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in France
Since surveillance ended on November 30, a summary of the 2016 season will be provided later this winter.
Surveillance of gastroenteritis
Gastroenteritis activity in the Grand Est region remains significantly higher than in previous years during the same period, both in emergency departments and among SOS Médecins associations.
After a slight decline in week 46 (November 14–20), activity in emergency departments began to rise again in week 47 (November 21–27), while activity among SOS Médecins continued its downward trend.
High activity is also observed within the Sentinelles Network, and the epidemic threshold for acute diarrhea has been exceeded for this network in the region.
Bronchiolitis Surveillance
Since week 45 (November 7–13), bronchiolitis-related activity among children under 2 years of age has increased significantly according to both data sources.
In week 47, the Grand Est region entered the epidemic phase
According to data from the virology laboratories at the Nancy and Strasbourg University Hospitals, RSV continues to circulate in the region.
Influenza surveillance
Since early September, influenza activity in the Grand Est region has been low according to both data sources.
Hospital virological data indicate the circulation of the first influenza viruses in the region.
Carbon monoxide poisoning
During weeks 46 and 47, there were 7 incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning involving 12 people.
Mortality Surveillance
According to available data, mortality rates for all ages and among people aged 75 and older observed in recent weeks are consistent with seasonal norms.
