Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of April 25, 2024.
Key Points
Following a sharp increase in dengue virus circulation in French Guiana during January, the situation stabilized at a very high level for four weeks before beginning to decline in early March. Despite the sharp decline, the trend has remained stable for the past month, and the number of clinically suggestive cases remains at a high level, close to that observed in early January 2024. Vigilance remains essential as the rainy season resumes, a condition conducive to a resurgence of the epidemic.
In S16, dengue virus circulation is stable across the entire country, with variations by region. Dengue activity remains high in the Eastern Interior region following an increase in this region during S15, specifically in the Cacao CDPS. A slight increase is observed in the Savanes and Western Coast regions.
The DENV-2 serotype was the most commonly identified in Week 16 (76% DENV-2 and 24% DENV-3 among serotyped samples).
Since January 2023, 19,736 clinically suspected dengue cases, seen in general practice or at health centers (CDPS), and 10,832 confirmed cases have been recorded, including 12,819 and 8,044, respectively, in 2024.
The characteristics of 293 hospitalized patients for whom information is available are described on page 5. These data are currently being consolidated.
