Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of June 6, 2024.
Key Points
The circulation of the dengue virus in French Guiana fluctuates from week to week, but the overall trend has been downward since early March. In Week 22, the weekly number of clinically suggestive cases increased slightly compared to Week 21. Vigilance remains essential with the return of the rainy season since mid-April.
In week 22, an increase was observed in the Cayenne Island and Western Coast sectors, while a decrease was observed in the Savanes sector (data not consolidated for this sector). In the other sectors, the situation remained stable and at a low level.
The DENV-2 serotype was the most commonly identified in S22 (95% DENV-2 and 5% DENV-3 among serotyped samples).
Since January 2023, 21,580 clinically suspected dengue cases, seen in general practice, at health centers (CDPS), or in local hospitals, and 11,163 confirmed cases have been recorded, including 14,660 consultations and 8,379 confirmed cases in 2024. The characteristics of the 374 individuals hospitalized during the 2023–2024 period for whom information is available are described on page 5. These data are currently being consolidated.
