Public Health Surveillance in the Aquitaine Region. Epidemiological Update as of January 8, 2016.

Mortality: The number of recorded deaths (all ages and those aged 75 and older) during week 52 has risen slightly but remains below the alert thresholds.

Emergency room visits by vulnerable populations: Emergency room activity for children under 1 year of age is decreasing but remains above the alert threshold, while activity for those aged 75 and older is stable and remains below the alert threshold.

Reportable Diseases (MDO)No unusual situations have been observed since early December 2015.

Carbon monoxide poisoningSince September 1, 2015, 17 incidents have been reported in Aquitaine, including 6 related to boilers, 3 to the use of barbecues/fire pits, and 3 to generators. In total, 39 people had to be transported to the emergency room.

Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)In Aquitaine, significant epidemic activity according to SOS Médecins and the Os-cour® network (close to the epidemic threshold). In France, sustained activity below epidemic thresholds, with values close to those observed the previous year.

Influenza: Influenza activity remains low in Aquitaine, as in all regions of mainland France and across Europe. However, an increase in activity has been observed in Brittany. In Aquitaine, there were no severe cases of influenza or clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in week 53.

Bronchiolitis: Activity was relatively stable compared to the previous week within the SOS Médecins network (8.6% of cases) and slightly down in emergency departments (18.4% of visits). However, activity remains above the epidemic threshold. Activity in the AquiRespi network decreased, with 163 cases treated over the weekend of January 2–3 (324 between December 28 and January 1).

Respiratory Virology and Enterovirus MeningitisNo reports of enterovirus meningitis according to the Bordeaux University Hospital laboratory, and 1 case reported by the Oscour® network. Among the 41 positive respiratory virus tests, 8 were rhinoviruses and 17 were RSV. One sample tested positive for influenza B.

Mushroom poisoning: end of 2015 surveillanceDuring the surveillance period, from June 29 to December 31, 2015, 124 cases were reported according to CAPTV and 48 cases according to Oscour® (1,417 and 578 in France). Three severe cases reported in Aquitaine (data to be confirmed following review by CAPTV).

Chickenpox (indicator not detailed in the body of the document)Increase in activity among children since week 52 of 2015 according to SOS Médecins.
