Highlights and Summary of the 2023 Season
During the 2023 season, import pressure was particularly high for dengue, linked to very active viral circulation in Martinique and Guadeloupe. As a result, 1,979 imported cases of dengue were identified in mainland France between May and November 2023 (67% of which originated in the French Antilles), compared to 272 during the 2022 season.
Nine episodes of local transmission nationwide, totaling 45 locally acquired dengue cases, including the first episode in the Paris region (an intrafamilial cluster of 3 cases in Limeil-Brévannes in Val-de-Marne).
In Occitanie:
214 imported cases of arboviral diseases: 211 cases of dengue and 3 cases of chikungunya;
3 local dengue transmission clusters, involving a total of 23 indigenous cases
one outbreak of 11 locally acquired cases (DENV-2 virus serotype) in Perpignan in the Pyrénées-Orientales, with symptoms appearing between July 25 and August 18, including two intrafamilial clusters of 2 and 3 cases, respectively;
an outbreak of 9 locally acquired cases (DENV-1) in the municipality of Gagnières in the Gard department, with symptoms appearing between August 27 and September 27, including two household clusters of 2 and 3 cases, respectively;
an outbreak of 3 locally acquired cases (DENV-3) in Montpellier in the Hérault department, with symptoms appearing on September 19 and October 1.
