Key Points
In Week 08 (February 19–25, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits decreased among children under 15 years of age (down 13%, or 11,268 visits, and down 9%, or 970 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
Seasonal respiratory indicators continued to decline across all age groups, particularly visits for suspected COVID-19 infection (-27%, or 164 fewer visits), as well as visits for influenza/flu-like illness (-38%, or 2,884 fewer visits) for the third consecutive week.
Despite a decrease across all age groups as well, visits for pneumonia and, to a lesser extent, bronchitis remained at levels higher than in previous years.
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for coughs among children under 2 years of age (+12%, or +44 visits) as well as a slight increase in visits for conjunctivitis across all age groups (+8%, or +86 visits).
