Assessment of the risk of nosocomial infection in transferred patients

Do transferred patients really have more serious conditions and are they at greater risk of developing a healthcare-associated infection? To answer these questions, data from four annual prevalence surveys (1993–1996) were analyzed. These surveys were conducted at a 400-bed general hospital, comprising 150 surgical beds, 235 medical beds, and 15 intensive care beds (general intensive care and cardiac intensive care).
