COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region as of April 23, 2020

Key Indicators in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region

  • Laboratories: a total of 13,313 positive test results as of April 19, 2020, including 1,686 in week 16 (W16) and 2,647 in week 15 (W15).

  • Sentinelles Network: incidence of acute respiratory infections of 118 per 100,000 inhabitants in W16 (155 in W15).

  • SOS-Médecins: downward trend in COVID-19-related visits; 10% of consultations were COVID-19-related in W16.

  • Emergency departments: downward trend in COVID-19 visits; 6% of visits were COVID-19-related in W16.

  • Facilities caring for dependent elderly individuals: 2,412 cases among residents and 326 deaths as of April 22. The number of reported COVID-19 cases has been steadily decreasing since March 31.

  • Hospitalized cases: downward trend in hospitalizations and ICU admissions for COVID-19 patients; 1,819 hospitalized cases as of April 22, including 326 in the ICU; 564 hospitalized patients have died since the start of the epidemic.

  • Sentinel intensive care units: 69% of cases had at least one risk factor as of April 22; invasive ventilation was required for 67% of cases.

  • All-cause mortality: significant increase in all-cause mortality in several departments of the region during weeks 14 and 15.
